How to prepare for your first home physio visit

For families

The first visit works better when the house is ready for it. Wear clothes you can move in, clear a small space if you can, and have any recent hospital or GP notes nearby.

Before the visit checklist

  • Comfortable clothing, and supportive footwear if you use it.
  • A clear chair-and-walk space if that is practical. You do not need to rearrange the whole house.
  • A list of medications, or a recent discharge summary, if you have one. This is helpful, not compulsory.
  • Parking or building entry notes for the clinician.
  • A family member in the room only if the client wants that support.

What happens on the first visit

You talk through history and goals. The physiotherapist assesses mobility and the movement that matters in your home. Initial treatment and a home exercise may follow, as clinically indicated. You leave with a plan for follow-up. Wherever possible, the same physiotherapist continues.

The plain definition of the service is what is physio at home. The service page is physio at home.

Practical tips for Sydney Metro homes

Apartments, houses, and aged care residences all work when visits are allowed. Share access instructions when you book. Mention pets, stairs, and outdoor steps so the clinician can plan. We do not publish a shopping list of equipment. Coverage is on Sydney Metro home visits.

Funding and paperwork reminders

Under Support at Home, the registered provider holds the funding. Alera Healthcare is an associated provider and coordinates when care is arranged. If DVA applies, bring the card details you already have. Private clients can enquire online or call 040 55 77 555, and fees are confirmed on the call. Read Support at Home physio funding. What applies to you is confirmed on the call. We do not offer occupational therapy or NDIS services.

After the first visit

Expect a clear plan for the next step. Questions between visits can go through the usual phone or email path. If you have not started, Book a 15-minute call. Phone 040 55 77 555. Graded exercise later, when it fits, is in-home exercise physiology.

Frequently asked questions

What should I prepare for a home physiotherapist visit?

Wear clothes you can move in, clear a small space if you can, and have any recent hospital or GP notes nearby. Share parking or entry instructions when you book.

How long is the first home physio appointment?

Session length is confirmed when your care is planned. We do not publish a fixed minute count here. Ask on your 15-minute call.

Do I need special equipment at home?

Usually no. Therapists bring portable equipment. Your physiotherapist will say if a sturdy chair or clear walkway helps.

Can a family member stay during the visit?

Yes, if the client agrees. Family support can help with goals and home exercise practice.

Will I see the same physiotherapist next time?

Continuity is a core part of how we work. Wherever possible, the same physio returns.

How do I book my first home physio visit in Sydney?

Book a 15-minute call via the bookings page, or phone 040 55 77 555. We aim to respond within one working day. The call is planning only, not a treatment session.
