Short answer: Every Alera Healthcare visit starts with something small: standing from a chair without help, walking to the letterbox, or getting to the front door when the grandchildren knock. Our name comes from the Latin elevare, meaning to lift, to raise. That is what our physiotherapists and exercise physiologists set out to do for older Australians in their own homes, retirement villages and aged care across Sydney Metro, with the same therapist where possible, as an associated Support at Home provider.
What does “elevare” mean for Alera Healthcare?
Alera is not a random brand word. It comes from the Latin elevare: to lift, to raise.
For us, that is not a slogan about doing everything you once did. It is about keeping the things that matter to you, and having someone in your corner who knows which ones they are. Ageing well is personal: one person’s letterbox walk is another’s safe transfer or a confident step to the front door.
That is why we start with small, meaningful goals first. Lift one transfer. Raise one daily routine. Build from there.
Every visit starts with something small
In practice, the first conversation is rarely about a gym programme or a clinic timetable. It is about ordinary life:
- Standing up from a favourite chair without relying on a family member
- Walking to the letterbox and back with steadier balance
- Reaching the front door when the grandchildren knock
These moments look modest on a care plan. They are often the difference between staying involved in home life and slowly withdrawing from it. Our clinicians treat them as serious clinical goals, practised in the rooms and pathways the person actually uses.
Why in-home care changes what we can see
Clinic rooms are useful. Homes are honest.
When physiotherapy or exercise physiology happens at home, the assessment includes real chair height, real stairs, real bathroom layouts, and the pacing a person uses between kettle and kitchen table. That is why Alera Healthcare comes to the person. No waiting rooms, no long drives across Sydney, and no unfamiliar face at every visit when continuity can be arranged.
Our Physiotherapists have been caring for older Australians in their own homes, in retirement villages and in aged care for more than 20 years.
Physiotherapy and exercise physiology only
Alera Healthcare provides physiotherapy and exercise physiology at home. We do not offer occupational therapy or NDIS services. If another kind of care would suit you better, we say so early so families and referrers know where they stand.
In plain terms:
- Physiotherapy often leads when mobility, gait, balance, post-hospital recovery or pain-related movement needs assessment and a broader rehab plan in the real home.
- Exercise physiology often leads when progressive clinical exercise for capacity, chronic conditions or healthy ageing is the clear next step.
Many older adults benefit from both across a care journey. The point of elevare is not which title arrives first. It is whether the plan lifts the daily tasks that matter.
Continuity: the same therapist, visit after visit
Retelling the same history to a new clinician each week slows progress and wears people out. Wherever possible, the same physio returns, so the person is not starting again every visit. The clinician learns which goals matter and how family prefer to be coached between sessions. That continuity is part of how we “raise” capacity: steadily, with memory of what worked last time.
Associated Support at Home, explained plainly
Alera Healthcare is an associated Support at Home provider.
When Support at Home funding applies, a registered provider holds the participant’s funding and plan. Alera Healthcare delivers physiotherapy and exercise physiology in coordination with that organisation when those clinical supports are authorised. Families and care coordinators can start via referrals or for referrers.

Soft next steps if you need a hand
If you or someone you care for could use a hand with mobility, balance, strength or confidence at home, we would love to hear from you.
- Book a 15-minute call to map needs and suitability. This is not a free clinical treatment session.
- Care coordinators and discharge planners can send a short note via referrals.
- Call 040 55 77 555 or email admin@alerahealthcare.com.au.
We come to the person. We keep the goals human. We lift what matters, one visit at a time.
FAQ: Alera’s name, home visits and who we help
What does Alera mean?
Alera is rooted in the Latin elevare: to lift, to raise. The name reflects our focus on helping older Australians keep the everyday abilities that matter to them, through in-home physiotherapy and exercise physiology.
Do you only see people in clinics?
No. Alera Healthcare is a mobile service. We visit homes, retirement villages and aged care across Sydney Metro. Assessment and practice happen in the environment where the person lives.
Will I see the same therapist each time?
Where possible, yes. Same-therapist continuity is a core part of how we work, so you are not explaining your story to a new face at every visit.
Are you a registered Support at Home provider?
No. Alera Healthcare is an associated Support at Home provider. The registered provider holds funding and plan responsibility; we deliver physiotherapy and exercise physiology when those clinical supports are approved and coordinated.
