How private home physio works

Paying privately? This is how a self-funded home visit is arranged, from the first enquiry to the invoice.

  1. Enquire online or call. You, or a family member, send an enquiry through the enquiry form or phone 040 55 77 555. No GP referral is needed.
  2. 15-minute planning call. We check your address, the reason for physio, access (stairs, lifts, parking) and a time. It is planning only, not a treatment session.
  3. First home visit. No waitlist. New clients are usually seen within 24 to 48 hours of booking. A visit runs 45 to 60 minutes.
  4. Ongoing visits. The same physio returns wherever possible, so progress is measured against the same baseline.
  5. Itemised invoice. Alera provides an itemised invoice for every visit.

No. Clients or family can enquire online or call 040 55 77 555; no GP referral needed. A letter from a doctor is welcome when you already have one, and it is not a condition of starting.

If a GP, surgeon or hospital team has given you discharge notes or exercise sheets, have them ready for the first visit. A practical list for that morning is in how to prepare for the first visit.

Fees and invoices

  • We do not publish fees on the website. Your fee is confirmed on your 15-minute call, before any visit is booked.
  • Alera provides an itemised invoice for every visit.
  • Detail on what private home physio costs.

What a 45 to 60 minute visit includes

The physio comes to the rooms you use. The points below describe the work in that visit. They are not a promise about how far you will walk, or how soon anything will change.

  • Assessment on the first visit: history, goals, how you move around your own home (bed, chair, bathroom, steps, garden).
  • Hands-on treatment and exercise where appropriate.
  • A home exercise plan you can follow between visits.
  • Practical advice for moving safely at home.

The physio brings a small kit and uses a dining chair, a hallway or a step that is already in the house.

Who we help at home

These visits are physiotherapy at home for an older person who would rather stay home than cross Sydney for a clinic, and for an adult child organising that care from another suburb. The parent does not have to be the person on the phone. These pages go further on each situation:

Physiotherapy and exercise physiology together

Physio for assessment, pain, mobility and recovery; exercise physiology for longer-term strength, osteoporosis and chronic conditions. A private client can use one, or both. The physiotherapist looks at how you move today. The exercise physiologist builds the longer programme once that picture is clear.

Read exercise physiology at home and physio first, then exercise physiology. A private home visit covers these two services only.

Keeping family in the loop

If your family would like an update, your physio can provide one with your consent. That is useful when a son or daughter lives in another suburb, interstate or overseas and cannot be in the room. When family carers refer for home physio sets out the questions adult children often ask before the first call.

The same physio, wherever possible

They already know which chair you use, which step is the awkward one, and what you managed last time. Progress is compared with your own starting point. Staff leave, or where you live, can sometimes mean a different physio on a given day. That is why we say the same physio wherever possible.

Meet our physiotherapists on the team page. Why the same person matters for measuring change is in the same physio and a shared baseline.

Areas we visit for private clients

Already on Support at Home or DVA?

Alera is an associated Support at Home provider, not a registered provider. If you have a registered provider, they can arrange physio or exercise physiology with us through your plan. For veterans, see DVA home physio, and for the wider picture see Support at Home and DVA funding and already have a Support at Home provider.
